· Costs have been high priority for everyone especially in the shipping industry. With spot rates at record highs and supply demands at unprecedented levels the bottom line is being monitored closely to ensure fiscal responsibility. However as accessorial fees keep increasing, it has been harder to manage costs in this pressurized market. To help our clients we are breaking down some of the major updates that may have additional costs ahead.
· Recently PierPass has announced an increase from December 1, 2021 – January 31, 2022 in the Traffic Mitigation Fee (TMF) to a whopping $156.46 per container. This fee is required for Los Angles and Long Beach for containers picked up between 7:00 AM – 5:59 PM. Also, the clean truck fee has been reinstated at $10 per TEU to be assessed to cargo owners until April 2022. Lastly in LA and Long Beach have started to charge an additional $100 per day penalty fee for shipments on the port after the LFD.
· There has also been a recent announcement that Hapag-Lloyd, Ocean Network Express (ONE), Yang Ming, and HMM will be omitting Savannah from their sailing schedule for one month to avoid this area due to congestion delays. This will lead to higher trucking costs for customers when moving cargo back down to this area. There is also a possibility that shipping costs through other carriers that will still call the Savannah port to increase due to a higher demand.
