· Shippers will likely have to pay up to $2 million dollars to charter a trans-Pacific freighter. This is in part due to an increased demand as inventory has hit an all-time low for many. With the need to fill the shelves ahead major shopping holidays like Black Friday and Cyber Monday retailers are scrambling to build up stock as quickly as possible.
· Delays being felt in the ocean freight market are also fueling this cost surge in the air market. Needed supply is often stuck at port waiting long periods of time to become available often leaving warehouses in a back-order status as merchandise has often already been sold by the time it is received.
· Many have also speculated items not already actively on the ocean will not reach the US in time for holiday shopping. The raised price for Air Cargo is also expected to remain at this elevated pricing through Chinese New Year (near the end of January 2022).
