· The South Carolina Ports Authority has released a projection for clearing currently anchored vessels in Charleston and the outlook is staggering. SC Ports has announced it will likely be mid-March to work the currently anchored vessels as the port congestion issues have created no room for waiting vessels cargo to be unloaded. There are an estimated 20 vessels at Charleston pending unloading currently. Dwell time is also at an all-time high at this port with the current expected dwell time at 15 days.
· The port authority has implemented new strategies such as giving a higher berthing priority to vessels that take more containers than the amount being dropped at the port. They have also started using 4 cranes to work berthing vessels as quickly as possible.
· The port authority has suggested that the increased volume felt prior when Savannah cargo was being diverted to Charleston has in turn created a drayage shortage creating a new layer to congestion in Charleston. This with increased import volume seen all over the US has created a backlog that will take time to work through.
