· Los Angeles and Long Beach have been under a huge backlog of cargo for quite some time. They have extended gate hours to 24 hours a day 7 days a week to get the port terminal back closer to smoother operations. Problems, however, still seem to plague the West Coast terminals.
· Los Angeles communities are now making their concerns known as truckers are moving cargo through their neighborhoods to additional storage facilities to help clear the pileup at the port. This is causing issues for the roadways and traffic as well as disturbing residents due to increased noise and even rattling windows as well as vibrations from the heavy trucks moving on the city streets.
· Residents have also faced damaged vehicles and property due to the size and increased amount of extra container cargo in urban streets. Recently a container even disconnected from truck sliding off and crushing a car below it. Thankfully no one has been injured, but leaders of these communities are asking the port to clarify if these containers are being moved by certified truckers to help limit accidents like this.
