· Chassis shortages have been an ongoing issue impacting the US supply chain. Record imports have far exceeded the supply of chassis during the pandemic and as imports continue to soar chassis supply has continued to cause additional slowdowns around the US.
· With this ongoing slowdown to the supply chain, it has become increasingly important to determine when we may see relief and an increased chassis stockpile. As dwell time has increased by another 40% this year contributing to the compounding shortage. Additionally, the world’s largest chassis manufacture China International Marine Containers (CIMC) was forced to move a portion of their production due to Antidumping duties instituted in 2021 creating a manufacturing delay.
· With these factors in mind Dave Manning the CEO of the North American Chassis Pool Cooperative has announced that due to at least 50,000 marine chassis ordered from US and foreign chassis manufactures orders will likely not be fulfilled until next year and even the year after. This means chassis shortages will likely be here to stay through 2024.
