· Congestion has been impacting the US ports and rails heavily during this peak season. Georgia and South Carolina have also been feeling this increased volume and have been impacted in multiple ways.
· Dwell time in GA and SC have increased even doubling since last year as well as vessel backlogs. These locations like many others have also been plagued with ongoing chassis shortages. There has also been a rise in import volume, in Savanah there has been an increase of 18%, and Charleston has seen a surge of 38%.
· To help address some of these issues the ports are looking into offsite storage options as well as pleading with cargo owners to pick up containers as quickly as possible.
