Infrastructure Bill planning to impact US Ports and Waterways

· US Ports and Waterways are on course to receive $11.8 billion in federal funding over the next five years. This funding is part of the current infrastructure bill that Congress hopes to have finalized over the coming weeks. Although this is not the original amount planned of $17 billon this is at least a “great start” according to Chris Connor the president of the American Association of Port Authority (AAPA).

· This amount would go past the annual allocation for the US Army Corps project funding. In addition, $25 million would be earmarked for marine highways as well as there would be a provision of $400 million in entirely new grants to help port reduce emissions created by trucks.

· There would also be $16.7 billion in funding available in programs providing awards for improvements made to the rail as well as flood mitigation projects that would also potentially available.
