· Container imports from Asia into the US reached an all-time high in January. A staggering 1.7 million TEU arrived in the US containerized cargo market from ASIA. This is around a 4.5 percent increase from January 2021. And a 14.6 percent increase from December.
· This was just ahead of the lunar new year and cargo was being pushed out at a rapid pace to the US market to avoid delays due to the two-week holiday. With this factored in February will likely see a huge drop in cargo however March is already pacing to be another robust month as production will have likely regained momentum.
· It is expected that the import rate will stabilize to the West Coast, that currently handles about 50 percent of the US imports received from Asia during 2022 in the next several months allowing East Coast growth for Asian imports.
