· The Ningbo port also known as Meidong Container Terminal is expected to start a gradual re-opening of the facility as early as Wednesday. It is not clear at this time how a resume to work will be organized; however, it is likely the backlog of cargo will be the starting point and full operations will likely begin September 1st. This is welcomed news after a mandatory shut down following a positive Covid-19 of an employee last week.
· After operations halted at Ningbo a large-scale testing of employees was initiated and no new positive cases were identified or reported. Allowing for this staged re-opening to remove pressure from other local ports that have been dealing with increased volume, while the Ningbo port was closed.
· This news comes after ocean carriers including Cosco Shipping Lines (COSU) and Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) omitted the Ningbo port from their upcoming sailing schedule in an effort to avoid additional delays. With the latest development at the Meidong Container Terminal an update has not been provided by carriers at this time as to when they will re-add Ningbo as a calling port.
