· Ningbo container terminal was forced to shut down operations at the Meishan terminal on Tuesday. This shutdown was required after an employee tested positive for Covid-19. operations were suspended at 3:30 am locally.
· This shut down comes shortly after a closure at the Ningbo port due to typhoon In-fa. Both Shanghai and Ningbo were temporarily closed causing a large amount of congestion at both port locations. Earlier this week it was already expected that it would take both ports at least a week to clear congestion that had been accumulating during the typhoon closure and carriers have already estimated a delay in their sailing schedule for shipments from both port locations.
· Currently there are 28 anchored container ships at Ningbo at the time of this halt in operations. A major concern of is how other ports will also be impacted as they will likely be inundated with extra volume.
