The 1,150 longshoremen of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local (CUPE) 375 will not be allowed to strike again until a new collective bargaining agreement is reached with the MEA
Canada's second largest port (Montreal) was shut down by the strike nearly one year after a previous strike that also left the port nonoperational for 11 days
The longshoremen have been without a contract since 2018 and, while the details are not officially public, it has been implied the results of this strike will lead to better work-life balances, working conditions, and the mitigation of long stretches of work days with little time off
