· LA and Long Beach hit a new record for number of vessels waiting to berth at port. A jaw dropping 47 vessels were lingering at the port the last weekend of August. This delay is compounding frustrations at the terminal harbor.
· To help elevate some of this pressure at the west coast carriers are now looking to add Portland to their sailing schedule. MSC has announced they plan to call the Portland port once a week and at least 3 other carriers are moving to do the same.
· Many US ports are having similar issues during a hectic peak season. Most have stated the biggest obstacle adding to this compounding congestion is cargo not being out gated in a timely manner. This in turn creates a backlog of containers in the yard leaving no space for unloading incoming vessels. Port officials are pleading to carriers to push for cargo pickups in a timelier manner to resolve some of the issues being seen around the country.
