· The Union Pacific (UP) railroad has held a long-standing rule to prevent trucking companies from coming in with private chassis when the chassis pool had no available equipment. This in turn caused many containers to be placed in stacks and storage fees enforced to importers for cargo not able to be out gated due to lack of available equipment.
· The UP has now ended this rule after reviewing what they deemed as market changes. The previously provided rational for this no cherry-picking rule that while equipment shortages were a major concern, they needed to ensure employees were focusing on unloading trains as a priority during their shifts. But have advised that due to a capital investment in equipment and with market changes they are willing to make changes to policy when needed.
