· An ongoing supply chain crisis has had disastrous impacts in the United States (US). There have been many factors that have added to the upheaval felt in logistics since the beginning of the pandemic and most are hoping for solutions soon. The recently passed US infrastructure bill hopes to address some of these obstacles moving forward to allow for a return to normalcy in the logistics sector. The bill includes planned improvements to port waterways, rails, and even roadways. So, what impacts will this have?
· This will undoubtedly create more issues in the short term. Supplies for projects will likely need to be imported adding to congestion and shipping space concerns. Construction will also impact the movement of cargo from arrival to port to delivery at warehousing facilities potentially causing additional slowdowns. With these soon to be felt affects many projections have been updated to indicate the supply chain crisis will likely continue through 2023.
· Once projects are completed, we will however see the first major update to many needed infrastructures throughout the US. This will likely help to ease pressure felt at ports and railways for an expanded container volume. Also improving roadways, and bridges increasing safety and allowing for smoother transpiration in the trucking industry. The positives impacts can certainly keep vital cargo moving forward in the future.
