Weather Impacts felt around the World



 

· We have seen in the past several months high winds and heavy rains impacting cargo movement and creating additional delays in the supply chain. Many of these weather conditions have forced port and rail closures for extended amounts of time until needed repairs can be completed or power can be restored for safe transport. Recently multiple events have occurred that have not only had a major impact to those directly affected by severe storms but have extended worldwide affects in global trade.

· The super typhoon named Rai slammed into the Philippines leaving a path of devastation to the approximate one million directly affected by the storm. Many parts of the country were flooded and sadly 375 lives were lost. Malaysia was also inundated with flood waters due to heavy rains received over the weekend displacing an estimated 50,000 people and at least 6 people were killed.

· These catastrophic storms have wreaked havoc on those areas int their path and global impact although not completely known at this time will likely be felt quickly. Malaysia’s Port Klang, the second-biggest port in southeast Asia is currently delayed as access roads to the port are damaged leaving employees unable to get to work. Also, authorities have advised essential good delivers will be prioritized at the port to help those most in need during this crisis.
