· After a stalemate over the T-5 jurisdictional dispute to determine if the ILWU (the International Longshore and Warehouse Union) can in fact represent this Seattle terminal stalled contract negotiations for 9 months. The ILWU and the PMA (Pacific Maritime Association) have once again restarted negations with both sides agreeing to not discuss the T-5 situation and instead working to resolve issues beyond this matter in hopes of regaining a much-needed contract resolution between both parties.
· It should be noted both parties coming back to the table to resolve this contract may be in response to the possibility of the Secretary of Labor Mary Walsh being brought in to oversee the negotiations, after dock works were engaging in on-again, off-again work tactics creating cargo delays despite a drop in overall import volume.
· A completed contract would help to ensure a smoother cargo transition into the West Coast and also help to impact Trans-Pacific shipping line retail negations for the 2023-24 service year.
